(From the Ruidoso News - Diane Stallings)
Longtime Hondo Valley resident Coda Omness officially declared her candidacy for the District 5 seat on the Lincoln County Commission, running in the Republican primary.
Her story is like a movie script, she said. It began with an odds-on failure track in the Albuquerque North Valley to the wide-open spaces of the border town of Columbus, to a hard-won General Equivalency Diploma at the age of 28. The work was capped off by her graduation from Eastern New Mexico University with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.

For the past seven years, Omness has worked as director of public relations and marketing for ENMU-Ruidoso. Prior to that, she was with the Hubbard Museum of the American West, and the Lincoln State Monument.
Her volunteer resume includes Ruidoso's Rotary Club, where she is president-elect, and service with the Hondo Valley School Board, the Billy the Kid Scenic Byway Committee, Leadership Lincoln, 4-H Club of Hondo, National Wild Turkey Federation and the Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium.  Ruidoso News    More     Hear the Interview

(How many federal agencies employ snipers, anyway? Too many, it is safe to say.) The county sheriff negotiated the terms of the federal government’s surrender with Cliven Bundy. More

Across the nation, con artists are scamming grandparents out of thousands of dollars by posing as grandchildren in distress. In one instance, New Mexico, grandparents were taken for $4,000. They wire transferred $4,000 to someone they thought was their grandson after he called and claimed he was caught in Mexico with marijuana in the rental car, needed to pay a $3,000 fine, and needed airfare to get home. A man fro

m the US Embassy claimed to be helping the grandson. It was all a fraud.
